Coach Whitten grew up in Wilton, Connecticut where he was a 3 sport varsity athlete and won 3 State Championships in lacrosse.
He then went on to continue his lacrosse career while attending Duke University in North Carolina, where his team won an ACC Championship in 1995 and was a member of the team's first Final Four team in 1997.
After several years in the corporate world Coach Whitten opted for a major career change and got back into the sport which was so important to him through his entire life.
In his first 3 seasons coaching the Trojans of Weston High School in Connecticut he amassed a record of 43 wins and 14 losses. During his short career Coach Whitten has coached 17 All-State players and 1 All-American player. In 2007 his Weston Trojan High School team finished with an 18-3 record and captured the teams first State Championship in Lacrosse.
In 2006 Coach Whitten was awarded Class S Coach of the Year distinction by his fellow coaching peers in the state, and was also named Coach of the Year in 2007 by the Connecticut Post.
In 2008 Coach Whitten took over as the head coach for New Canaan High School. Since his time at New Canaan, a perennial Connecticut power, his teams have reached the State Finals three times and League Finals twice winning the 2012 FCIAC crown, the school's first FCIAC title since 2003. He has coached 23 All-State players and 3 All-American in his time at New Canaan.
Besides his responsibilities as the Head Coach at New Canaan, Coach Whitten has successfully run a series of private camps, clinics, elite teams and national seminars. His core belief is that lacrosse is one of the greatest sports on earth, but that it requires a greater infrastructure to sustain the growth of the sport. His main goal is to teach the game of the lacrosse to the best of his ability in order to share the greatness of the sport with as many people as he might be able to reach.
In November of 2012, Coach Whitten and his family moved to Charlottesville Virginia. Coach Whitten has now stepped down from the helm of the Varsity program at Western Albemarle High School in Crozet, Virginia. Along with his responsibilities at the high school level, Coach Whitten also acted as the Program Director for the Western Albemarle Lacrosse Club, serving the lacrosse needs of youngsters in the Western District of Albemarle County.
Coach Whitten continues to bring his expertise in program development, clinics, camps and lessons to Charlottesville and will continue to provide the highest possible level of instruction in the greater Charlottesville area.
